Fresh crispy lettuce and enamored toppings that make everything about a green meal taste good. Not a fan of ice berg but I will dabble with it if it’s mixed in with spinach or leafy greens. I love a good arugula but sometimes I choke on the stems. why can’t i chew right dammit. There’s so many options when it comes to a salad base now. Kale, Butter Leaf, Arugula, Leafy Green, Spinach, Cabbage, Romaine, Ice Berg. I prefer a soft and crunchy blend so I naturally lean toward spinach and butter leaf. The butter leaf can get pricy though, so a head of romaine will do.
The Kardashians probably elevated the infamous shake of a salad, as if no one in their time ever shook a container to mix the ingredients. The frequent orders of chopped craze is from Health Nut, a restaurant in Woodland Hills, California. If you’re on the East Side of life, they have a few locations in NYC. I’m not going to sort through salad locations and tell you which is good and which isn’t. Instead I will provide you with a hearty, healthy, and delicious salad recipe.
This recipe is guaranteed to make you want to toss it in a container and shake it up. Lord knows we can’t freely toss a salad properly in a bowl. Feel free to add your protein of choice, my top choice is usually a piece of seared salmon.
Now, the first step is simple: wash your lettuce. please. For your own safety.
Step 2: chop with kitchen scissors, a knife if you don’t have them.
Step 3: chop up cherry tomatoes, (preferably Roma), cucumbers, red onion, avocado, and mango.
Step 4: finely chop into tiny bits because they add up quick in calories, walnuts or any preferred nut for crunch
Step 5: toss together your mixture and add half a teaspoon of Crunchy Chili Onion oil for some spice.
Step 6: season with Himalayan salt, pepper, paprika, parsley, and Everything But the Bagel from Trader Joes.
Step 7: for the dressing I’m not totally picky but I do love to finish it off with an Italian vinaigrette freshly made by grandma. Any will do, but don’t kill it with something creamy. Sometimes I add a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
Step 8: shake and enjoy!
